Nobody walks through the Strip District without eating something. Between the bakeries, fish counters, and food stalls along Penn Avenue, it is one of the most food-focused neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. If you avoid half of what is on offer because your denture moves or your partial pinches, it may be time for a better solution.
Our Downtown office on Fifth Avenue is just a few minutes from the Strip. Drs. Nicholas and Mara Mangini are prosthodontists who make new dentures, repair and reline existing ones, and anchor dentures to implants for patients who want more bite strength.
Most denture wearers can chew soft food reasonably well. Biting is harder. Tearing into a sandwich or a piece of fruit with your front teeth puts leverage on a conventional denture that can break the seal and lift it off the gums. That is often the first thing people notice they have stopped doing.
A well-balanced complete denture helps, and a partial denture that anchors to your remaining teeth is more stable still. For real biting confidence, implant support usually makes the biggest difference. Our dentures page explains the options in more detail.
When a denture connects to implants, it can no longer rock forward when you bite. A removable implant-supported denture snaps onto two to four implants and gives you noticeably more control. A fixed option like All-on-4 goes further, using implants to support a full arch of teeth that stays in place permanently.
We use 3D imaging to show how much bone is available and which option it can support, then explain the cost and timeline of each before you decide.
Not every denture problem calls for a new denture. A cracked base or a lost tooth can often be repaired. A denture that has loosened as the gums changed can be relined to restore the fit. If the teeth are badly worn or the denture is many years old, a replacement usually makes more sense.
We examine your current denture first and give you an honest recommendation, including the cost of each route.
Market workers start early and many residents keep office hours. Our Downtown office opens at 8 AM and stays open until 6 PM Tuesday through Thursday, so you can often come in before a shift or after work.
For general care close to Penn Avenue, see our Strip District dental care page, or read about dental implants near the Strip District if you are replacing individual teeth.
Often, yes. Cracked bases and broken or missing denture teeth can usually be repaired. If the denture is old or badly worn, we may recommend a replacement instead and will explain why.
Implant support greatly improves biting because the denture can no longer tip forward. We still recommend cutting very hard foods, but most patients bite and chew with far more confidence.
Our Downtown office is open Monday 8 AM to 4 PM, Tuesday through Thursday 8 AM to 6 PM, and Friday 8 AM to 1 PM.
Drs. Nicholas and Mara Mangini completed prosthodontic residencies at the University of Pittsburgh and have led Atlas Dental Specialists since 2014. Every phase of denture and implant care happens in our practice.
We accept MetLife, Cigna, Principal, and Ameritas and work with most PPO plans. Book an appointment at our Downtown office.
