Dr. Mara Mangini’s journey to becoming one of Pittsburgh’s most respected prosthodontists is deeply rooted in her love for her hometown and her commitment to providing exceptional dental care. Raised in Pittsburgh, she pursued her Bachelor of Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, where her studies in Architecture and Environmental Studies sharpened her attention to detail and creativity—skills she brings to her dental practice today.
Returning to Pittsburgh, Dr. Mangini transitioned into the sciences with outstanding success, earning a place in the honors society at the University of Pittsburgh. Driven by the influence of her mother, Dr. Kathryn Duncan Friedman, a pioneer in the dental field, Mara pursued her academic path at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) in 2011. During her time at dental school, she met her husband and future collaborator, Dr. Nicholas Mangini, forming a partnership that continues to shape the field of prosthodontics.
Dr. Mangini’s passion for dentistry and her dedication to excellence led her to pursue a rigorous three-year residency in Prosthodontics at the University of Pittsburgh. This advanced training provided her with specialized skills in comprehensive restorative dentistry, encompassing surgical and restorative implant therapy, bridgework, full-mouth crown, and denture treatments.
During her residency, Dr. Mangini also served as an instructor to pre-doctoral students, a role she found both fulfilling and impactful. Her commitment to education extended beyond her residency, as she took on the role of Clinical Associate Professor at the Pitt Dental School for two years. Today, as a lead dentist at Atlas Dental Specialists, she collaborates closely with her mother and husband, combining years of experience with cutting-edge technology to deliver unparalleled dental care.
Dedicated to staying at the forefront of dental innovation, Dr. Mangini actively participates in numerous professional organizations. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of Osseointegration, the American College of Prosthodontics, the Pennsylvania Prosthodontics Association, and the Pennsylvania Dental Association. Additionally, she plays an active role in the Pitt Dental Alumni Board, mentoring the next generation of dental professionals.
